Diario AS journalist BEGS Luke Modric to stay at Real Madrid

AS’s Tomas Roncero takes a look at Modric-Inter rumours and sends a message to the midfielder

“That Inter Milan should have designs on the best player at this summer’s World Cup isn’t a surprise. Indeed, what is surprising is that there aren’t another 10 major European clubs in the queue.

“Luka Modric has shown that, despite being almost 33, he continues to stamp the same classquality and vision on the midfield as ever. Having helped his club to four of the last five Champions Leagues, Real’s conductor-in-chief has just led his country, Croatia, on a dream run to the final in Russia.

“What’s more, Inter know that a new tax law in Italy has made Serie A a very attractive place indeed for foreign players coming into the country.

“But despite what our colleagues at Gazzetta dello Sport say, I’m utterly convinced that there are pages of footballing history that Luka still wants to write at Real Madrid. It’s a case of his agents and the club doing their job and sorting him the improved contract he so thoroughly deserves.

“He only has two years left on his current terms, and it’s only fair that the next Ballon d’Or winner – if the polls are to be believed – should get the kind of deal his boundless talent merits.

Luka, please stay. The Bernabéu is where you belong.”

What would you say to Luka if you meet him right now?
